Ariana is a two-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix and she weighs 34 pounds. She is a beautiful brindle girl with golden eyes. You will be lured in by her pleasing looks and then Ariana will start speaking, trying to run you off. You see, this little girl was on the euthanasia list at county due to her fear. Dogs will rarely get over fearfulness on their own; they require assistance from a caring, experienced owner. Ariana can overcome her fear with repetition and consistency. These are things that require time and patience. Ariana is a member of a dog playgroup at Home Fur Good and may do well with a canine role model. Dogs gain self-confidence with obedience skills. With that self-confidence comes the ability to overcome fear. The underlying theme with Ariana is that she needs a home with people willing to spend time on training and who have the patience to work at her pace, and one that is full of love so she can gain confidence and trust. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Asner was turned in to the county shelter as a stray. He is an adorable 10-year-old, 11-pound Chihuahua mix, and it is not surprising that he was adopted right away. His adopters said that he loved adults, children, and snuggle time. But they felt that he was not eating and that he appeared ill, and they could not afford vet care. Asner was taken back to county, where Home Fur Good stepped in. He needed dental work and TLC. Asner is feeling back up to par and ready for a forever home. He does love to be carried around like a prince, and he would like a permanent spot next to you on the couch. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Baby (aka Blazer) (and his previously adopted friend) was surrendered by his owner of 2.5 years because they had to move. Baby is a playful inquisitive intelligent teenage boy with a bundle of energy who likes to explore everywhere and everything. He is extremely affectionate and attentive, wanting to be involved with everything that is going on. He requires an active household of feline enrichment, playtime and entertainment. He likes to begin with head butting to say hello displaying his affection, and once more secure, enjoys cuddling. He is a high arousal cat and is exceptionally loving on his terms. An abundance of human and feline companionship is a must as he does not do well if left alone for long periods of time. Baby Blazer loves leaping high to capture his toy prey and is a prime candidate learning tricks! He is a beautiful siamese mix and should be adopted by an experienced cat owner. No children nor elderly. $85.00 adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip and a free wellness visit with our vet within two weeks of the adoption date. Meet Barley, a lovable Lab mix whose parents rescued him two years ago. A significant change in life circumstances requires them to look for a new forever home for him, and they are heartbroken but have no choice. Barley is four years old and weighs about 80 pounds. He is pure sweetness; he loves cuddling so much that he sometimes forgets his size and wants to curl up in your lap. He loves to be active: running around in the yard, going for a good walk, or a hike. Always up for adventure, Barley never misses a chance to hop into the car for a ride with his humans. He also loves fetch, or even just playing chase with anyone who is also interested in a game. Barley is as loyal as they come; he wants more than anything to please his people. Given his size and love of affection, he will do well either as an only dog or as a brother to another large dog. Sweet Bea is just two years old, but she has already created quite a history book. Originally, Bea was captured in a trap out in a field and then taken to the county shelter, where Home Fur Good found her. Bea was under-socialized and needed to learn all about how to be a dog. You know, the good stuff, like going for walks. Bea was adopted out of HFG and she has been with a family for the past year. She is an active 45-pound Australian Cattle Dog mix. Bea is young and intelligent; she needs to play a role in family activities. Her family just did not have the time to devote to her. Bea did well with the children in her home, who were over five years old. Bea has not spent quality time with other dogs, and she appears intimidated by them. She warms up quickly and will sit when asked. After burning a little energy, Bea would love to snuggle up and get a good belly rub. If you would like to finish her story with a Happily Ever After, please come meet Bea. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Charleigh will turn six years old in July. She has been searching and waiting a long time for a home that will be hers forever. Back in 2016 Charleigh jumped into the open window of a car that belonged to a Home Fur Good employee. Questions about where she had come from and why she was out roaming free were never answered. Charleigh is great with all adults and she adores children. On the other hand, she is not a fan of other dogs. She would thrive as the only pet in a home. Life in the shelter does not appeal to Charleigh; too many other dogs making noise and moving around are a huge stress for her. She spent over a year with HFG before being adopted, mostly because she does not show her best self in the shelter environment. Recently, Charleigh found herself at the Apache Junction Animal Shelter. The story of how she arrived there is unknown, but the family who had adopted her from HFG chose not to take her back. HFG staff and volunteers have welcomed Charleigh back with open arms. She is a giant love and just wants to curl up in your lap. As a Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix, weighing 41 pounds, she is the perfect size for any lap. Take a moment to sit with Charleigh, and let her try to win you over with kisses and puppydog eyes. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. She has spent several Sundays at the PetSmart adoption events where she soaks up attention from people of all ages. Daisy is a mature lady, but she still has tons of spunk and a sense of adventure. When the RunBuddy Mobile Gym comes to the shelter, Daisy gets excited to go for a workout. She trucks right along, keeping herself in training to go for walks with her forever family. Home Fur Good responded to a plea put out by the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control dog shelter. Entropion occurs when the eyelid rolls inward and causes the hair, eyelashes, to rub on the eye. The surgical correction is a simple procedure, but not one that MCACC could provide. HFG stepped up and provided Denver with her freedom ride and corrective surgery. Denver truly is a gentle giant who shows nothing but appreciation for the care she has received. The feedback from her previous owner is that she is housebroken. With any new dog you bring into your home, care should be taken to make sure they are shown the ropes and the rules of their new home, so that they have time to adapt, because accidents do happen. (Photos shown are of past kittens and are no longer available, we get new kittens all of the time). Kittens are always best in pairs. Physically, mentally, socially, emotionally. They play together, entertain each other, learn from each other, sleep together and provide comfort to each other. Kittens are not recommended to pair with a senior cat. Senior cats don't usually like the annoyance of a kitten for very long. How long can grandma and grandpa handle the toddlers 🙂 Single kittens are ok if you have another cat at home. Six-year-old Kobuk is ruggedly handsome with an aloof independent side. He needs to trust and respect that you are looking out for his best interest before he warms up. Kobuk will thrive in an environment that provides structure and repetition. Respect goes both ways. Kobuk will respect you by following your instruction, and in return you respect Kobuk by teaching him your expectations and providing him with boundaries. Kobuk may sound like a bit of a curmudgeon, but in reality, he is very playful. He plays fetch, goes goofy-silly for squeaky toys, and he will lean on you for love and affection. The shelter is a stressful environment, and after a lengthy stay a dog will not always show his most attractive quirks. Kobuk is looking for a hero who will give him time and patience. Kobuk will need time to shake off his past life, and time to learn what the future holds. He has been a member of doggie play groups at HFG, so if you already have a dog, Kobuk might just be their new best friend. As for statistics, Kobuk is listed as an English Sheepdog mix weighing in at 68 pounds. Mia came to HFG with her 3 babies. they have been adopted and she is ready to live life! Mia can definitely have the Catitude going at times. Sometimes she is lovey dovey and all over you, and other times she will let you know to leave her alone. She loves to give you hugs and sit on your shoulder. Mia would probably be better as an only cat. She will tolerate them and be in the same room, but may be happier on her own. Would suggest an experienced cat owner. $85 adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip and a free wellness visit with our vet within two weeks of the adoption date. Minker, The Stinker, is definitely a favorite at Home Fur Good. Why would we call this 18-pound six-year-old a Stinker? Not because it is an insult, to be sure! Minker has a great sense of humor and he is always ready for anyone to take him on any sort of adventure. The best part about Minker is that a trip from his kennel to the lobby of the shelter is going to be the best trip of his life. He is such a stinker because he will make you smile and laugh even when you do not want to. Minker is a Chihuahua mix with the agility skills of an antelope. He is able to leap a four-foot wall in a single bound; what a stinker! Minker is great with other dogs and loves to play with his doggie friends. He also likes to unwind by hanging out in a nice warm lap. He is the perfect combination of playful entertainer and snuggly lapdog. Remember, Minker is a Chihuahua, and he does like to push buttons and boundaries. Minker did take Basic Obedience back in the summer of 2017 and it may be a good idea to give him a refresher course. He would do best with an experienced Chihuahua owner who will not let him get away with shenanigans. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. She loves to play and is a very cute playful cat, but seems to not like hands coming at her. Our guess is that she had a bad experience with someone maybe smacking at her. She loves to play with toys and play with you as long as you leave your hands away from her. We are working with her on this. The more she learns to trust you, the better she will become. Please consider giving this playful beautiful girl a home. $85 adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip and a free wellness visit with our vet within two weeks of the adoption date. Mooney came from the county shelter where he was at risk of being put on the euthanasia list. Mooney had shared a kennel at county with a dog suffering from ringworm. Ringworm is treatable and curable but at a large county shelter, where it can spread rapidly, it is a death sentence. With the HFG Medical Fund, medicated dips, and tons of tender loving care, Mooney is ringworm-free and ready to be your lap dog. Mrs. Beasley was taken in off the street by a Good Samaritan. Her finder had children aged four and six, and Mrs. Beasley was great with them. Mrs. Beasley surprised her newfound family by going into labor just a day after being taken in. Her finder felt the labor was not going correctly and took Mrs. Beasley to the county shelter. MCACC ended up performing an emergency cesarean section on Mrs. Beasley and her little boy Buster was born on March 10, 2019. Home Fur Good arrived at county the next day to rescue new dogs, and the decision was made to take Mrs. Beasley and Buster. The little family immediately went into foster care. Mrs. Beasley and Buster stayed in foster until Buster became old enough to find a family of his own. Mrs. Beasley, all her drama behind her, is a five-year-old Chihuahua mix, ready to find a forever home. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Five-year-old Chihuahua mix Oliver was adopted out of Home Fur Good when he was five months old, and he has spent the past five years with the same family. Oliver gets a gold star on his inside-the-house dog skills: he is housebroken, and he can be trusted to be loose in his home both day and night. Oliver enjoys both cat and dog friends; however, he is better with other dogs when he is not on a leash. Not all his leash skills are in need of work, though; he loves to trot about town, his little ears just flopping away. Oliver will do best in a home with older children. He needs to have his space respected. Oliver is receptive to being picked up and held, but he does not care for getting kissed on his face. He is a happy little guy open to making new friends. He is built almost like a jackrabbit, with long back legs. Pippin is agreeable to being picked up and loved on. He weighs only eight pounds, making it hard to resist picking him up for a squeeze. You might wonder what kind of mission Pippin could be on, but he is just a puppy born October 25, 2018, so he is trying to learn about everything as soon as possible. The adoption fee for Pippin is $400, which is higher than it would be under our normal fee schedule. That is because Pippin is one of our Guardian Angel dogs. Guardian Angel dogs are highly desirable adoptees, and their increased fees are used expressly to help defray costs for our rescues with special needs such as advanced medical treatment or training for behavioral issues, or for those who are with us for unusually long periods of time. In this way the Guardian Angels directly help our other rescues! All adoption fees include spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. The puppy with the crazy radar ears is Quade. Quade has a birthdate of June 23, 2018. He is a 36-pound Boxer and Pit Bull mix, but he is still growing into his body, as you can see by his ears that appear to have a mind of their own. Quade does not appear to understand the function of a leash; he is either nervous about the intentions of the leash or he assumes it is used for a game of tug. But he is a smart boy and will catch on quickly to the fact that leashes are for walking. Quade must have had someone in his past who taught him basic obedience. He has shown that he understands sit, shake, and down. Quade came to Home Fur Good from the county shelter. While at county, he was introduced to a doggie playgroup where he did have good social interactions. Home Fur Good has not yet introduced him to other dogs. If you are interested in adopting and already have a dog, a meet-and-greet will be required. The adoption fee is $300 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. The adorable brown hippo is Rico. He is a short, stocky, bowlegged low-rider who will melt your heart. Rico is a one-year-old, 60-pound Pit Bull mix looking for a forever home. He was adopted from the county shelter and then returned a few months later. His owner said that Rico was aloof but that he got along with the other, smaller dog, the cat, and the children, aged 14 to 18 years. Rico was allowed to roam inside his home both day and night, but he has a tendency to door-dash. Home Fur Good has found that Rico is food-motivated and he is open to learning basic obedience. Rico willingly comes out of his kennel for everyone and he seeks affection. He is very non-reactive. When walked by other dogs who are very excited in their kennels, Rico will beeline towards his destination; he prefers to remain passive. Rico has a scrunchy, wrinkly forehead that makes you wonder what he is thinking. Two-year-old Rocket has come back to Home Fur Good. He has spent some quality time in a home environment to give him a break from shelter life. He is a 46-pound Pit Bull mix who has never met a two-legged stranger. While on his shelter break, Rocket was given the freedom to remain loose in his home. If left alone too long, Rocket would find ways to entertain himself, which could mean destroying something that was not his. Rocket was on his best behavior if he could burn energy on one activity per day. He enjoys playing fetch, running, going on long walks, and hiking. He likes to play a good game of tug-o-war, and squeaking on stuffed toys. Rocket has also worked on his obedience skills; he knows the cues for sit, down, off, stay, come, heel, and shake, and he can even jump through hoops. He has proven he is handsome and smart. Rocket may get excited at the first sighting of a cat, but then he loses interest. He would do best as the only dog, so he can soak up all the cuddles during couch time. An older dog with a loving heart, Rocko gets along with other dogs, loves kids, and enjoys going for walks. He is equally happy playing at the dog park or just relaxing on the couch. Rocko does not do well on long or strenuous hikes; he gets winded easily and has weak knees. These two issues make it difficult to take him everywhere we go. He is good when left at home and is not a destructive dog. He does struggle with lapping water so he makes a bit of a mess, and he needs to have his food soaked in water to eat. Rocko is in good general health and he is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. This boy needs a hero. He needs a person or family willing to help a loving and lovable dog find his new forever.
