Hidden Gem of the Month

Madison the Rottweiler/German Shepherd

When you mix a Rottweiler with a German Shepherd, you come up with a block-headed, squishie-faced love bug with a nubbin tail that never stops wagging. That description is a bit long, so you could also say that the mix makes a dog that is 100 percent pure affection. Madison is six years old, she weighs 62 pounds, and she wants to be your new bestie. Madison was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. She has been enjoying new experiences while at HFG. She caught on quickly to the mobile exercise gym, Run Buddy. Madison hops on her treadmill and trucks along. She has made friends with other older, calm dogs at HFG and enjoys going on walks with both her human and canine friends. Madison is polite, patient, and great on a leash. When she is out and about, she greets people nicely. Madison is ready to be your sweet companion. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm. Adult, Female, Large.

Adrianne is a seven-year-old Chihuahua mix and she weighs seven pounds. She has oversized radar ears that are on alert. Adrianne was hand delivered to Home Fur Good by the county shelter. She has been sharing her kennel with another doggie and she seems to really enjoy the company. Since coming to Home Fur Good, Adrianne was adopted out briefly. The family immediately fell in love with her and thought she was perfect, but she was returned for possible medical issues. HFG made sure that Adrianne saw the vet and got all required treatment. It turns out that she has chronic dry eye, and she will require eye drops for life. Adrianne warms up very quickly to new people and she will approach you for attention. She has the sweetest little squeak when she needs your attention to get more pets. She will make an amazing lap dog for a lucky family. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Maybe you have heard rumors about the sweetest pooch at Home Fur Good. Maybe you have been to the shelter and wondered about the sweet, petite girl with bat-like ears who appears almost fur-less. Well, wonder no longer. Amari has shown patience like no other, and finally she can search for her forever home. Amari will turn three years old on March 29th. She is a 39-pound Pit Bull mix who is pretty sure she is a lapdog. Amari was discovered at the county shelter back in April 2019. Upon arriving at HFG, it did not take Amari long to be adopted. She was a little too playful with the family dog, and that adoption only lasted three days. Amari came back to HFG and that is when her world was turned upside down. First, Amari went into medical isolation for ringworm, and then she was diagnosed with MRSA. Amari spent months healing, recovering, and working to get back to being able to socialize. Finally, Amari was cleared to join the general population at HFG, but her skin and fur condition was not changing. Amari started allergy shots in December 2019. Immunotherapy injections cause the body to stop generating symptoms after exposure to certain allergens. Amari will need to continue her injections, every 10 days, until December 2020. The need to continue her injections is not going to interfere with her hunt for a forever home. Finding a home full of love and care can only help her feel better. Along with the shots, her new family will need to keep her on a diet of hydrolyzed protein dog food and treats for the rest of her life. Amari will also need to continue taking Apoquel for the itchiness. Amari is an absolute joy of a dog, so happy, friendly, and playful that any family would be lucky to have her. And the family that commits to the care Amari requires will be the hero that she deserves. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Have you heard that two is better than one? That is truly the case when it comes to bonded pair Charlie and Sasha. Recently, they were taken to the groomer for a spa day, and then their owners decided not to pick them up. It is hard to imagine how anyone could abandon such sweet little cherubs. The groomer, Annie, being an amazing person, took the dogs home to figure out the next plan. They are both Chihuahua mixes; Sasha is three years old and weighs 12 pounds and Charlie is four years old and weighs 14 pounds. Annie said that all dogs prefer her husband, that is just the way it is, but Charlie and Sasha preferred Annie. She said eventually her husband won them over, but they have a preference for women. The trick is to win over Charlie, and then Sasha will follow his lead. Annie said that both dogs used her doggie door and if there was no door available they would nudge arms, letting people know they needed to go outside. Charlie, Charles Xavier, is the love bug who watches over Sasha. He also likes to burrow under the covers at bedtime. Sasha, Sassy Pants, is also a sweetheart, easily won over with treats. Come down and meet these two and watch them interact; it is heartwarming to watch them look after each other and take turns being the leader while they explore. The total adoption fee is $350 for both and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Chiara was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. She spent two months at county before Home Fur Good fell under her charm. Chiara is a four-year-old, 60-pound Pit Bull mix. All of her county notes state how excited she was to come out of her kennel and that she was friendly and active on each outing. Chiara is just bursting to get out of a kennel and be allowed to explore. She is a joy to be around, but with her size and strength, she will need a family with dog experience and matching energy, to help her learn how to express that exuberance in a calmer way. Her bursts of energy do start to wane, and she will lie down and actively seek some belly rubs and pets. Chiara will be an amazing addition to her forever home; she will offer a lifetime of positive vibes. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

This high-energy girl (no, that is not a typo; Elliot is a female doggie) is great with people, both adults and kids, but should probably be with only older kids as she is a bit of a jumper when excited. She has done well with dogs of all sizes. Elliot is a mix of Golden, Shepherd, and Husky. She is five years old and weighs 100 pounds. She has a lot to say when she wants your attention and your cuddles, and you will want to give them to her! Elliot badly needs a new forever home for reasons outside the control of her family, who love her. We hope you will meet her. Thank you. Peabody has not had a lot of luck finding a home that is forever. He will be turning 10 years old in April and he is a 12-pound Chihuahua mix. His first arrival at county was back in 2012. He was returned several times over the years. His family lost their home one time, and most recently, he was not bonding with his male owner but was extremely affectionate with his female owner. Peabody is a bit apprehensive in new situations, but if you move slowly and talk it through with him, he is very receptive to becoming your buddy. He does prefer the ladies, and would do best in a home with older or no children. Peabody is good with cats and other dogs; in fact he is currently sharing a kennel with another dog. Peabody is a curious little trucker who would enjoy daily strolls about town. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Sadie found herself turned in at the county shelter. The chaotic pace of a shelter can be overwhelming for a dog. Sadie is softhearted and she requires time and patience to adjust to new situations. Home Fur Good fell in love with her gentle nature. She is a six-year-old, 65-pound American Pit Bull Terrier mix. Sadie is settling into the routine at HFG and adjusting to the rotation of staff and volunteers. She has noticed the pattern and her experiences coming in and out of her kennel have been positive. Sadie does seek the safety of her kennel, but she will come in and out with coaxing, love, and yummy treats. She also has an Achilles heel for squeaky toys. Who does not love a good toy? The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.
