Gentle, mellow, and kind are great ways to describe Alexis and her inner beauty. Stunning blue eyes is a great way to describe her outer beauty. Alexis is a five-year-old, 65-pound American Pit Bull Terrier mix. Possibly she could stand to lose a few of those extra pounds, no judgment. Luckily, Alexis is pretty much a dream on a leash, so it will not be too difficult to get her out on walks and help her to trim down. Home fur Good found Alexis at the county shelter. Notes from county state that Alexis spent time with a six-year-old child and Alexis was great with her. While at county Alexis was introduced to a doggie playgroup. Alexis was calm, social, and non-reactive while she romped with other dogs. Alexis knows sit and she takes treats gently, like a good girl. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

They are Queensland Heelers and they have grown up together. How to tell them apart? Jax has a white stripe on his forehead. Both are seven years old; Bailey weighs 55 pounds and Jax 43 pounds. These two sweet dogs enjoy being active, loving walks, hiking, swimming, and camping trips. They are crate-trained, they both do very well off-leash, and they are obedient. Bailey and Jax are hoping really hard that they will find a forever home together; they need each other. Also, they will do best in a home with no children, as they tend to attach to adults and become protective of their adult humans. They are very loyal to their people. We hope some of you will consider meeting and adopting these two beautiful dogs. Bambina was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. She is an 11-year-old Chihuahua mix. Bambina is currently hitting the scales at 25 pounds; she is like a coffee table on legs. You do not get this chunky as a stray; she had a home and was loved with food. Home Fur Good would like to see Bambina go to a home dedicated to making her healthy, with appropriate amounts of food and strolls about town. Bambina will be happy with a home that shells out lots of petting and attention. If you scratch her ears just once, she will become your shadow hoping for more. Bambina is easygoing and very affectionate. Currently, she is sharing a kennel at HFG with another dog, so if you already have a four-legged shadow, she will fit right in. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. • Labrador Retriever, Great Dane
  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Up-to-date with routine shots
If you love big mutts, as Home Fur Good does, then you are going to fall head over heels for Bran. Bran just turned a year old; he has a birthdate of January 22, 2019. He is a Labrador and Great Dane mix, currently weighing in at 81 pounds, and he is also very tall, making him one big puppy. HFG first discovered Bran at the county shelter back in June, where he had been turned in as a stray. Bran has not had the best luck at finding his forever home, but he is very outgoing and positive and he has not given up. Bran has worked very hard to be a good boy; he has learned sit, lay, and shake. His owner stated that Bran is housebroken; they allowed him to be loose in the home. HFG does warn that accidents can happen, and a new dog should be given plenty of time to learn rules and routines about where and when they can go potty. Bran loves his squeaky toys and he is very affectionate, needing plenty of cuddle time. He enjoys car rides and his owner said he does well in public spaces. Bran is strong and energetic, and will need a household where his exercise needs can be met. Bran was very much loved in his home. In the beginning, he played beautifully with the dog already in the home. Over time, Bran became very dominant towards that dog. Bran would probably do best as the only dog in his forever home. Bran is an enthusiastic, growing puppy. He is looking for a home that has the time to work with him and make him a full-fledged member of the family. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

If you are looking for some adorable arm candy, you need to come down and meet Carlo. He is a little charmer, too. Carlo cannot wait to come out of his kennel and meet new people. Go ahead and pick him up; he is more than content to be carried around like a prince. Carlo had been found by a Good Samaritan who took him home prior to turning him over to the county shelter. His finder stated that he is a bit of a door-dasher, which may be the reason he was lost to begin with. Currently Carlo is sharing his Home Fur Good kennel with another small dog, and he is happy to share his space. He is a little smarty-pants; bring some yummy treats and he will be happy to show off his beautiful sit. Carlo is a seven-year-old, six-pound Chihuahua mix. Have you heard that two is better than one? That is truly the case when it comes to bonded pair Charlie and Sasha. Recently, they were taken to the groomer for a spa day, and then their owners decided not to pick them up. It is hard to imagine how anyone could abandon such sweet little cherubs. The groomer, Annie, being an amazing person, took the dogs home to figure out the next plan. They are both Chihuahua mixes; Sasha is three years old and weighs 12 pounds and Charlie is four years old and weighs 14 pounds. Annie said that all dogs prefer her husband, that is just the way it is, but Charlie and Sasha preferred Annie. She said eventually her husband won them over, but they have a preference for women. The trick is to win over Charlie, and then Sasha will follow his lead. Annie said that both dogs used her doggie door and if there was no door available they would nudge arms, letting people know they needed to go outside. Charlie, Charles Xavier, is the love bug who watches over Sasha. He also likes to burrow under the covers at bedtime. Sasha, Sassy Pants, is also a sweetheart, easily won over with treats. Come down and meet these two and watch them interact; it is heartwarming to watch them look after each other and take turns being the leader while they explore. The total adoption fee is $350 for both and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Chiara was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. She spent two months at county before Home Fur Good fell under her charm. Chiara is a four-year-old, 60-pound Pit Bull mix. All of her county notes state how excited she was to come out of her kennel and that she was friendly and active on each outing. Chiara is just bursting to get out of a kennel and be allowed to explore. She is a joy to be around, but with her size and strength, she will need a family with dog experience and matching energy, to help her learn how to express that exuberance in a calmer way. Her bursts of energy do start to wane, and she will lie down and actively seek some belly rubs and pets. Chiara will be an amazing addition to her forever home; she will offer a lifetime of positive vibes. It is the perfect time of year to adopt a love bug and Demi is a perfect candidate. Home Fur Good found Demi at the county shelter. She had been turned in with another HFG rescue, Dougie. Suddenly finding yourself in the chaotic world of a shelter can be overwhelming. Demi is taking it all in stride; it just takes a little extra time and coaxing when asking her to come with you. Once Demi is away from noise and activity, her only goal is to get into your lap and then maybe to give you some butterfly kisses. Demi is a 40-pound, four-year-old Chow Chow mix. It will be heartwarming to watch her personality come through as she learns the routine at HFG. He is being listed as a four-year-old, 69-pound Labrador Retriever and Dalmatian mix. He has big spots like a pointer, little spots like a dalmatian, a big block head, and then this wrinkly turkey neck like a mastiff. Dougie is amazing to look at and ponder about. HFG found Dougie at the county shelter, where he had arrived with another HFG rescue, Demi. County introduced Dougie to a doggie playgroup, but he preferred to be left alone. Dougie walks great on a leash and everyone is excited to get him into the Dog Walking Club. County notes state that he has been around kids aged 18 months to four years and he did great with them. Enzo was out trying to live life on his own, when he was picked up by a county field officer. He is a very social boy; he was probably very excited to be taken to a place full of people. Enzo spent three full months at county before Home Fur Good scooped him up. Three months in shelter is a very long time. Did you know that shelter stress can set in within 10 to 14 days? County notes about Enzo start off saying how friendly he is and how easy he is to take in and out of his kennel. As the months wear on, Enzo starts to act out by biting at the leash and acting a little bit nutso in his kennel. He is becoming desperate to come out for attention; he does not realize his antics can be off-putting. This writer was taking out new dogs for pictures and to learn a bit about them. Each time I walked by his kennel Enzo tried harder and harder to get my attention. He is a four-year-old, 63-pound Pit Bull mix. Between his excitement and size, I was a bit nervous, I admit. But within seconds of having Enzo in a yard, he became another of my favorites. He was so thankful to be free, to be able to run and jump and get to know me. Enzo is really a giant puppy. When he was given a squeaky toy, it was on. We played chase, tug, fetch and keep away. Enzo had a sparkle in his eye and there was nothing for me to fear, unless a bit of drool, well quite a bit of drool, is going to hurt me. Enzo will thrive in a home that bonds with him by training him in basic obedience. By building trust, confidence, and social etiquette together with his people, Enzo will become a perfect family dog. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. • Australian Kelpie
  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Up-to-date with routine shots
Farley is an Australian Kelpie mix, weighing a fit 30 pounds. You may remember Farley or have heard stories about this little boy. He just turned a year old in December, so you would not think a dog so young would have much history to write about. Farley originally came to Home Fur Good last June. He is such a positive and enthusiastic boy; he instantly became a favorite. So, why was he returned from two different adoptions? Home Fur Good wanted to make sure that Farley would succeed so they contacted Couth Canine for training. Couth Canine has made it their mission to not only help improve the behavior of a dog, but also to equip the owner with understanding, tools, and confidence to have the best possible relationship with their dog. With Farley, Couth Canine has found that his biggest issue is being insecure around new things. The suggested family would be one that is very active, continually exposing Farley to new situations, and willing and capable to work with him through each scenario. Or, he would need a family on the opposite end of the spectrum: a family that is low-key and sticks to home and routine walks in their neighborhood. Farley would struggle with random adventures and new situations that were not consistent. Couth Canine has not identified anything specific that Farley needs to avoid; it is the general scenario of new, loud, and unexpected situations. Farley is currently boarding and training with Couth Canine, and they are spending quality time with him. Couth Canine feels that Farley is smart, sweet, and fully capable of behaving appropriately around new situations. That is, if his family is patient and gives Farley constructive feedback. Couth Canine is very committed to seeing Farley succeed. If you are interested in meeting him, Couth Canine would like you to contact them directly and go to their facility to meet Farley and see him going through his lessons. The adoption would still go through Home Fur Good, but Couth Canine would provide the tools to really understand Farley. Couth Canine can be reached at 602-466-5178. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Gatsby is a two-year-old, 79-pound Plott Hound mix. He is one of the sweetest dogs around. Gatsby does not act like a big dog; he is dainty and gentle. He must have had a sheltered past, because he treats every new situation like it is his first time. A good example is walking around within the shelter. It is too bad we cannot ask Gatsby if he has ever been inside. He crouches low and high steps across a room; he is very unsure about walking on polished floors. Gatsby wants your affection, but he waits to be invited and then he soaks up all the love. While Gatsby was at county, he did participate politely in a dog playgroup. It will be amazing to watch Gatsby transform into a confident family dog who knows he is loved and cherished. The adoption fee for Gatsby is $350, which is higher than it would be under our normal fee schedule. That is because he is one of our Guardian Angel dogs. Guardian Angel dogs are highly desirable adoptees, and their increased fees are used expressly to help defray costs for our rescues with special needs such as advanced medical treatment or training for behavioral issues, or for those who are with us for unusually long periods of time. In this way the Guardian Angels directly help our other rescues! All adoption fees include spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. This adorable pup is 2 years old, weighs 29 pounds, and is a mix, with primary breed unknown. Georgia LOVES people; she is all about cuddles and belly rubs. She does not like cats at all, nor does she do well with other dogs, and that is why she needs a new home; there is a cat in her foster home. Georgia is crate-trained, and she is so sweet-natured that she is happy entertaining herself with a stuffed Kong until it is time to play or to go outside, where she will proudly show off her excellent zoomies and make you laugh and love her. She is smart; she knows sit, down, and sit pretty, and is learning more every day. Essentially, Georgia will be a dream doggie in any household where she can be active and loved, and where there are no other pets. She absolutely needs to be an only pet. Murphy will be turning one year old on March 17. He is a 37-pound American Pit Bull Terrier mix, with a very sheltered past. He was turned in as a stray to the county shelter. Murphy was petrified to find himself in a chaotic shelter environment. When a dog is nervous and scared, showing them consistency and routine will help them to settle down and gain some confidence. Murphy spent about a month at county and during that time he learned that leashes are not scary and that it is ok to seek out attention from humans. Huge thanks to the dedicated volunteers and staff at county who gave Murphy time and attention. He even started to participate and become playful in a dog playgroup there. Since arriving at Home Fur Good, Murphy still approaches new situations slowly, but he also wants to come out of his kennel with you and he wants to sit with you and soak up love. Take your time with Murphy, give him patience, and he will bond and warm up to you, eventually giving you a butterfly kiss. His finder stated that Nero was friendly from the moment they came upon each other. When the county field officer went to pick him up, Nero was very fearful, and he needed to be snared to be put in the truck. His county notes state he was nervous and tense. Shelter life can be a scary adjustment for any dog, and if that dog has been under-socialized, they will act out in fear, barking or stiffening up, hoping to make the scariness go away. Now that Nero is at Home Fur Good, he will have structure and a daily routine, which will build his confidence. He has already started to learn that coming out of his kennel leads to good things: a treat, a yard break, or maybe even a little walk. Nero would be great for a family that wanted to introduce him to basic obedience training. Training increases communication and understanding between a dog and his human. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Puppies full of wiggles, wags, and kisses will always brighten a room. Ricky O. received that memo and he is all in on making you smile. He is a Boxer mix puppy with a birthdate of May 30, 2019. Right now, Ricky O. only weighs 24 pounds. Just a brief glance and you will see that Ricky O. is underweight. It is hard to know how much time he spent as a stray prior to being taken in to the county shelter, but Home Fur Good is going to make sure he gets proper nutrition to help fatten him up. Ricky O. is just a bit shy, but he warms up so quickly it almost seems wrong to call him timid. He is learning the ways of this big wide world and he would love a home where time can be spent to train and teach him all of their good-dog expectations. The adoption fee is $300 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

The large majority of dogs adopted out of Home Fur Good are found at MCACC, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. A close relationship has been created between the two rescues. From time to time, MCACC will reach out to HFG about a specific dog, asking for help. This is what happened with Rusty. Rusty is a two-year-old, sixty-pound Labrador Retriever mix and MCACC wanted to make sure he was given every opportunity to find a forever home. Rusty had been diagnosed with tick fever, easily treatable with meds and quiet recovery time. Rusty also has an interesting back left leg. It is possible that at some point he had a fracture that did not heal correctly. Veterinarians state that Rusty is not in any discomfort; he just might draw attention with his unique walking style. Rusty is sixty pounds of mush; he is positive that he is a lap dog and he is driven to be a best friend to everyone. It is worth the trip over to HFG just to meet Rusty; he will brighten your day and lift your spirits. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Sadie found herself turned in at the county shelter. The chaotic pace of a shelter can be overwhelming for a dog. Sadie is softhearted and she requires time and patience to adjust to new situations. Home Fur Good fell in love with her gentle nature. She is a six-year-old, 65-pound American Pit Bull Terrier mix. Sadie is settling into the routine at HFG and adjusting to the rotation of staff and volunteers. She has noticed the pattern and her experiences coming in and out of her kennel have been positive. Sadie does seek the safety of her kennel, but she will come in and out with coaxing, love, and yummy treats. She also has an Achilles heel for squeaky toys. Who does not love a good toy? The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Sterling was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. County took notes on her behavior at intake and they documented that she had a wagging tail and was very affectionate. Her outlook on life is one of positivity and all she wants to do is spread love and joy. Sterling is a Pit Bull mix puppy, weighs 30 pounds and growing, with a birthdate of July 20, 2019. Sterling was suffering from a condition called cherry eye in both of her eyes. Cherry eye is a disorder of the nictitating membrane, also called the third eyelid, present in the eyes of dogs and cats. Home Fur Good provided Sterling with the surgery needed and the time and love required to recover. Sterling is a puppy ready to take on the world; she has so much to experience and learn. She has been spending her healing time making friends both two-legged and four-legged. Fellow HFG resident Ricky O. has taken on the task of showing Sterling the ways of a puppy. They love to get up to shenanigans. They both recently participated in the Dog Walking Club, and they provided tons of entertainment as they opted to play instead of walk. Sterling has a giant heart and she cannot wait to be your new best friend. The adoption fee is $300 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Trista is a 13-year-old, 14-pound Border Terrier mix. If I had to guess at the mix, I might have picked baby goat. Trista is too adorable, the way she hops around and looks just like a baby goat. You will want to pick her up, squeeze her and kiss her little muffin head. Trista will be totally cool with all of it; she even enjoys being held like a baby. She had been turned in at the county shelter as a stray, which is where Home Fur Good found her. Trista is an older lady, she does have cataracts, but she has the heart of a puppy and she will love you with all her gusto. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

If you were to draw Winifred, you could start by tracing a potato, add a wagging tail, and a smile that goes from ear to ear. She is a mature lady, turning 13 years old in March, and a Cairn Terrier mix. Honestly, she is shaped like a 13-pound potato, and that is just one of the reasons to fall in love with her. Winifred lived in a home with another dog and a cat named Jilly. Last year, their owner was hospitalized, and they went to live with the sister of their owner. All three were then taken to the county shelter. Her doggie sibling was adopted from county, but Winifred and Jilly were taken in by Home Fur Good. Winifred was adopted out from HFG for several months, but it appears that Winifred prefers to be an only dog in her older age. If you are looking for a spud-shaped princess, come down and meet Winifred. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Worf was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. He must have been out looking for some new buddies. He is a chill, 18-pound, six-year-old Chihuahua mix. Worf must have some serious Netflix binge-watching in his past, because he could stand to lose a few lbs and he loves to snuggle. Worf will actually smile when you give him some bum scratches. Maybe you have a New Year resolution to get out and walk each day? Worf would love to help you keep that resolution. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital.
